? Do tell, I'd love to learn.
I knew you would Bite.. so here it goes..

well Technically a Sexlinked cross would make both F1s birds sexlinked right? evebn if they lack a sexlinked gene(as is the case of sexlinks hens, lack sexlinked barring) or if their sexlinked gene is Not visible even if they have it..

with that premise in place, I continue with my educational post

How can you get black male chicks from a "Sexlinked" cross? well using the well documented yet still rare sex linked recessive chocolate(think european Chocolate Orps)

Chocolate Orp male mated to any female(black, wildtype, partrige or any color not being dominant white/blue/splash) will produce Sexlinks, the Females will be Chocolate colored and males will be Black.. a Black sexliked male..

See, learn something new every day! Thank you.

I have not even started looking at chocolate or dun genetics, I'm still loving the good ol blue/black/splash. That concept was very easy for me to grasp as it's similar to equine color genetics.

You have me so intrigued with the silkie rooster for a sex link cross, I finally got my hands on a cute little partridge silkie rooster. I've never particularly cared for silkies and didn't imagine I'd ever own one! I do like the look of their crosses, though, especially to bantam cochins. I've got him in a pen with two bantam cochin hens and two EE/brown leghorn cross hens. I'll talk honey into working on an incubator for me maybe this weekend, and I'll be setting eggs!

I got him from a friend, and at the time all he had was black australorps, rir, and dominique. This made me think he was a sex link because most of his hens were rir and dominique while he had only two roostes. One black australorp and one dominque.

if those were the Only possible parents, then I would say he is the result of a Black Australorp x RIR cross the dominique cant be the sire or dame, just not possible

why not Dominique? well first he would have been Barred no matter what his sire/dame was, and secon his comb would have been Rosecomb not single comb, that leaves only the RIR x Australorp as the ONLY possible parents as he shows the Extended black of his Australorp parent and shows Red/gold feahters from RIR

My thoughts exactly...Aussie x RIR.

If either parent was a Dominique, he'd be colored more like this...
