Hi guys I would very much appreciate your opinions on the sex of my birds. All but one(buff silkie) were supposed to be hens but when I posted in a local group I got conflicting opinions. Especially on the barred and silver laced. There all about 13 /14weeks.

I've been good at sexing so far but that barred had me stumped. I swear the silver laced is a hen but a local lady is swearing I'm wrong bc the white ion what she calls the shoulders but it's actually her wing when she has them out. Thank you for your time!

Your barred rock is a cockerel. The wyandotte I think is a pullet. The silkies you're probably gonna have to wait longer on. Silkies are very hard to sex. Watch the crests for any development of streamers - long feathers that stick out of the crest. Those are a male trait.

You're welcome! You can tell the barred is a male because he is double barred - he has two copies of the barred gene. It's impossible for a female to get two copies. Plus, he has male hackle feathers coming in on his neck - the long, pointy ones. You can see them in one of the pictures you posted.

I agree that the barred rock is a cockerel. Not 100% sure on the Silkies. Maybe wait until they get a little older and watch for streamers coming off of their crests. I am thinking they are both pullets at the moment though. Silkies are very hard to sex and sometimes you have to wait for a crow or an egg to be certain.

Thought on the silver laced wynadotte?

Agreed.
