sexing bantams

you about have to do that right out of the incubator. If they were shipped in, they are prbably 3 days old now, so it would be tough to get an acurate count that way. You'll know before long though, congrats on the chicks

At what age do you sex them and do you have any pics. Boggy Bottom Bantams and I were wondering at what age can we start to see differences in the colors of our Silver Duckwing Phoenix bantams.

No I don't have pics but after raising these little things for around 4 years the color of the head is a dead giveaway 98-99% of the time.

So is that at day old then? This is the only pic I have of it at day old and I only have the one silver phoenix, with no others to compare it too. ( the others that hatched with it are white and brown red). Can you tell if the silver one is a pullet or a roo from these pics?

The pics are a little fuzzy but it looks like a pullet. No clue for the rest, but it looks pretty dark so I do think you got a pullet.

so what you are saying is the ones with the browner mahogany head stripes are female and the ligher reddish ones are males? That work the same way on golds? I've notices a slight difference in them that way too over the years..

that's so cool, I got one silver duckwing I think then like two games that are lighter brown. Are dutch smaller then OEGB, as I know I have some OEGB but I have two chicks one is black the other looks like a bb red chick but is much lighter brownish/tan.

I would like to weigh in on this and say in the 8 years I have been breeding OEGB I do comb sexing.
Found by close observation that most OEGB roos have a small comb where as the hens have a slick head.
I did this with just hatched chicks and redid it several times and all the ones with a comb were roo's

Would I rely on this as 100% no I wouldn't sex means very little to me because OEGB roos are just as Important as the hens.
Also wouldn't recommend it for other breeds

Yes I spend too much time with my chickens
