Anyone have any advice on how to sex Lavender Orpington chicks. Had a few hatch the other day and the suspense is killing me!!

How long ago is/was "the other day" - their age, in weeks, will determine which characteristics are most reliable in sexing them.

I was afraid of that. I've been all over google and it was post from years back and they all were on older birds. Just wasn't sure if I was missing something. Roughly what's a good age to be able to tell?? Beside when they start laying or crowing lol.

Depending on the individual bird, 4-6 weeks generally is when a good idea can be had though some take longer and some cockerels start walking around with "in a boy" signs earlier

True wing feathery sexing is reliant on the careful crossing of slow feathering and fast feathering parent birds to result in sex linked chicks...and must be done within the days of hatch. It is not universal to all chicks. ...applied to chicks not of the above crossing it is no more or less reliable than any number of old wives tales in gender prediction. After all, if or was universal to all chicks the use of vent sexing would no longer be necessary and sexing error would be all but eliminated.
