I bred a rhode island red rooster and some plymouth whire rock hens. all the chicks look the same. My bantam cochin was broody so she will raise them. Any thoughts? Thanks! T

Looks like three boys and two girls to me, if their chipmunk markings are as reliable as they are for purebreds.

That is partly what confused me. I thought with this combo, boys would be yellow and girls fawn/brown. Any idea why thos did not happen?

Were your white Rocks hatchery sourced? White Rocks do not always have the correct genotype to produce sex linked offspring.

Are you absolutely sure that cross is the source of the eggs you set?

Not to mention, a chipmunk pattern doesn't really indicate adult plumage. Look at bielefelder chicks, which are autosexing but both sexes are chipmunk at hatch.

Thats interesting. Ill try to breed a cuxko maran and a silver lace wyandottes and see if i get black stars.

Did you account for the hens ability to store sperm for 3 weeks or longer and assure she was fully "clean" of any other roosters before collecting the eggs for this hatch?

I only have 1 rooster and have had him and these girls for over a year.
