Okay here is the deal...one of my SFs was being pickd at earlier today...she is molting on her lower back. I stopped it and thought everyone had found something else to do but an hour later, this is what I find...

Her tail is completely gone! She was bleeding but it has almost completely stopped. I am currently boiling a saline solution to rinse her with. Her vent looks fine. I will see more when I clean it. Can I use blu-kote on it? I am trying to locate my neosporin at present. She is inside, calm, drinking and eating on her own. She has electrolytes and vitamins in her water. I do have terramyacin on hand if it is needed.

Any advice is appreciated.

That looks awful! Yes you could use some blukote once it heals up a little (even a scab). Good thing you caught it! You might give her some protein to help her molt (if you aren't already)

ooh gosh Cetawin!...i wish i knew how to help out!!...where diana?...i'll go check chat..if shes there i'll send her your way...best wishes, Wendy

Thank you... I know I am having a fit. I cannot believe they attacked her like this...well I can but I can't. She is so shy.

I am also going thru the same thing-- my Aracauna has 1/2 her tail meat gone, 3 are bald on their backs and bleeding, and my "Cherry Egger" has huge chunks of skin missing (eaten) and all her feathers from hip to tail gone.

We took her indoors for last night and tonight---and have been feeding her special goodies and letting her rest--

You MUST get some "Blu-Kote" and spray all the pecked areas with it-- the smell and color stops the pecking....

then make sure they are all getting enough protein in their feed, and that there is a minimum of 2-3 square feet per bird in the coop....

The Vet had us do all this, AND add liquid baby vitamins to their water (Poly-Vi-Sol) and everyone is doing SO much better (even emotionally-- we did a lot of holding, treats, and coddling!)
Tomorrow, Ruby goes back out with her nest-mates---

Vet said not to keep em separate more than a couple days, or re-introducing will be a serious problem!

Hope you have as good a result as we have--- the missing pieces will heal, but most likely be scarred, and may not get feathers back.

Well thanks for that info. I plan on keeping her inside tonight and cleaning her up.

I have the following on hand...

sterile saline solution (currently cooling on stove)
Betadine solution
Triple antibiotic ointment (no pain reliver)
Blu-Kote (sponge on variety)

thanks redhen....I will clean her up with the saline solution and betadine if need be and apply triple antibiotic ointment for now...I will look for diana in chat later

She is doing better. She has been cleaned up with sterile saline and betadine. The antibiotic ointment would not go on and stay so I blu-koted her really well. Bless her heart, I know it burned a little. she ate and drank and has been in the dog crate listening to "Larry the Cable Guy". I want to see how her poo is and make sure she is going okay.

I will see how she is tomorrow and look at putting her back with the girls on Sunday if she is okay. Now we wait.
