Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

What color egg does it lay?

KIDDING. Maybe it's a blue-brown Leghorn / Blue-red Leghorn? Evidently that's a thing.

He has fathered some chicks but it'll be a few months before they start laying.

Ex Batts good morning one and all!

I haven't been able to get out to my chicken coop due to the pain I'm having in my lower back and both legs.

My husband has been going out to take care of the chickens and collect eggs.

When I go to the coop I always count my chickens to make sure they are all there.

When he went out to care for the chickens Thursday he found one of my RIR's dead.

The RIR is not the one I thought would die.

Don't know what happened and it looked like the other chickens had been eating on her.

Temperature is in the 60s.

Have a great day!

@Ladies-Eight I am so sorry. It must be horrible not to be able to get out there, and very sorry for the loss of your bird. 🙁

That is very sad. I hate losing a bird I don't have any reason to think will die. Old age, yeah I could see that in my hens that died that way. I've never seen any of my chickens do anything but ignore a dead bird, as if they didn't even notice it.
