Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

My personal understanding: the only rule is that you need to pay tax (chicken picture, preferably rooster) if you are off topic, i.e., non-chicken related posts.

It is a great complimentary to Fluffy butt thread. It almost feels a bit more academic for lack of a better word. In summary this thread is really really awesome with lots of talented minds offering different perspectives.

I have no roostee. You will have to settle for Josephine. She is the closest thing I have to a roo. I am Big Rooster though ;)

@notabitail has been working their way through By Bobs thread. When they've liked a post it shows up on my alerts and I go and have a look. This is great for me because there are usually pictures of the tribes from Catalonia in the post, often pictures I've looked for on my hard drives but not been able to find. They're there somewhere in amoungst over five thousand pictures.:th

I was writting about closed fist feeding a while back. This is me giving Notch a few treats while I inspected him.

Lovely picture and I am delighted to report that Bernadette and I have mastered the closed fist technique - she no longer goes for the web of skin between my finger and thumb and because my fingers are curled she no longer tries to bite those off either.
Feeding her by hand is now a joy - so thank you for teaching me that approach.

I thought you all would like to see this:

@Shadrach is the inspiration for this. Chickens deserve free range in a house. And more mealworms.
I never thought I would invite chickens in the house...until I did. Chickens have heavily influenced me I think by their feigned unpretentious ways. Sure, come in the house. Sure, poop on the back deck. Sure, have some of my toast.

They stare at me for mealworms. Does anyone have a way to keep flies away from the door? I need it so I don't get yelled at for having the door open.

I have a walk through insect curtain in my back door. The one I have now almost reaches the ground, but the previous had a gap of about 15 cm /6” at the footstep (bought the wrong height) . The shorter insect curtain was not good to keep the chickens out, but only very few flying insects came though .

And some chick tax:
One of my tiny just hatched Vorwerk chicks is very curious and got out of the nestbox.

Edit: corrected the name of the breed. It’s a Bantam Vorwerk.

I did not think of that. I will see if I can get my Mom to buy one. Since I'm homeschooled, I do my school and watch the chickens from inside at the same time. It is very nice, having other living things that are not human around to help me out. Thank you for the suggestion.
Real math is boring. Chicken math is not. You just keep adding more chickens.

My daughter learned math in an alternative way at the high school she went to. This method was much more fun than the one I had in the past and also more fun as the method my son had on his high-school (general and similar to mine). It was called the Wageningse method.
Translated with google.
Math
Mathematics helps to structure your environment and thus better understand the world. The Wageningen Method is happy to help you with this. But beware: it takes effort to understand new things.
In addition to exercise, there is also relaxation. Because mathematics has an infinite supply of puzzles and the Wageningen Method offers a lot of them.
Meaningful, attractive and relevant
The Wageningen Method believes that students should be offered meaningful mathematics, and that mathematics should be attractive to the students. We appeal to the minds of students and insist that they understand what they are learning and why the material presented to them is relevant.
Education
Since 1973, the Wageningse Method has been working intensively on mathematics education for HAVO and VWO. She has been a household name in Dutch mathematics for years. Because the Wageningen Method is always at the forefront of developments, it is up to date.
Materials
The materials of the Wageningen Method are strikingly different and are self-published on a non-profit basis. The Wageningen Method is therefore an affordable solution for schools that do not shy away from an intellectual challenge and that like to work with involved teachers and pupils.
Maybe you can find something like that in English too?
