Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Do you not think there may be some lessons in failures ?
Not for the dead rooster.:(
Not for the "why keep a bad rooster when there are so many good ones" either.:(
In order to learn from failure one needs to know one has failed and most people in such threads don't. They think they are doing the right thing because of the few very vocal members here who can't cope with a challenging rooster.

There isn't much on the day to day posts on the general boards that's of any real interest to me.
This thread on the other hand is imo one of the most important and interesting threads I've seen on BYC.

In June 2019 I posted this thread.

As you can read, there wasn't a resolution really. Bracket just got better eventually. I had searched the internet for something similar and asked my chicken keeping friends in Catalonia who often had answers one just doesn't find on BYC. It remained a bit of a mystery and I put it down to experience and the fact that Bracket was a rather strange hen at the best of times.:love

Then this thread appeared.

The OP has some very informative videos and the two cases have such strong similarities as you will discover as you read, that whatever the problem is, the behaviours are so similar it's hard not to conclude that the causes, whatever one chooses to believe, are similar, if not identical.
This is cutting edge stuff. We know very little about broody behaviour in general and obsevations such as mine and CaliforniaMountainChicks seem to be the only records of such behaviour. I would think that if this has been noticed at any time before and been posted about it will have been dismissed as Wry Neck and the usuall recommendations would have been forthcoming.

Not quite as much rain today but enough to mean we spent most of the time in the coop extension.
We did get out for a brief forage. Tomorrow is supposed to be dry. We shall see.

Two more lash eggs in the nest box with some shell fragments. I think the shell fragments are from an egg that has been eaten rather than anything to do with the lash eggs.

I encourage everyone to move along the roost bar and we all sat there grumbling about the weather.

Do you suspect that the lash eggs are Lima's? I recall you said that you suspected she has salpingitis

@RoyalChick have you seen this ?

Yes! I remember Shad’s posts about Bracket and I have been following this new thread.
It certainly got me thinking about Eli. I will look at the video I have of her falling off the roost again.
Unfortunately I don’t have video of her in the floor so I don’t know if she continued having an issue while asleep.
I do know she had terrible trouble standing upright in the daytime. So it is a bit different, but the coincidence with going broody is quite striking.
Eli’s neurological issues seem completely resolved now.
Strange.
