Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

So I ordered a Skeksis plushie from Petsies. Submitted the 3 requested photos of my sweet bird that I felt would give them the best idea of what she looked like. As expensive as it was, let's just say they missed the mark.

Oh dear, not even close.:(

Thanks. I heard the founder of that firm featured on the Food Programme some time ago; love what they're doing, and I love my chickens, but I'm not paying for wholemeal sandal-type human food at stockbroker prices. I'm used to paying about £12 for 25kg, not £17 for 5kg - the maths of chicken keeping definitely wouldn't balance if I spent that much on peas! Delighted to hear about the fish scraps; hope it works out for you.
I bought a small bag of mixed peas and some wheat to test out.
As you write, not a going proposition for long term feeding. So far the most expensive items have been the Kilner jars.

Interesting thought, although I don't think it's legs only that do the work to turn really quickly. If I've ever had to catch one of the T-Rex's, they also use their wings to move really quickly, and more importantly, change direction.
Edit: this was a reply to @MrsNorthie , for some reason my reply got merged into the text

Shad, do you really pay this much for the feed? I find €20 for 5 kg way overpriced too.
The organic chick feed I bought last time was €23 for 25 kg.

Did you consider to put rat traps on the plot outside the run. The bucket traps filled with water will not only catch them but kill them too. And you don’t need any poison for these traps. Only concern would be children who come there to play.
Link to a bucket rat trap
If they make one big enough to trap kids I'll get two or three.:wee:D
I don't think bucket traps will work with rats.
A 410 shotgun would do though.:p

the reason is it seems to me a disadvantage for a species that relies on running to get away from predators (and also plays a role in their hunting as well of course).
That's the dinosaurs in trouble then.:p

how much are you paying for them? I've found there's usually a few in the bric-a-brac section in charity shops, where I've picked them up for a couple of quid each before now.

Wouldn't the lower center of gravity increase maneuverability? I guess that being a benefit would depend on the predator.
would it?
In any case, other things against the creeper (short-legged) gene are that it's dominant, and lethal when homozygous.
