Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

oh my, thank you! I can't help but feel like it's going to be fun trying to crack a hole in an egg this small...I'll update tomorrow I guess when I'll be covered in egg bits
I blew out my very first egg and saved it in a small sugar dish my grandmother gave me. A treasure in a treasure.

BTW... I found it takes some lung power to blow out an egg.

That's so sweet. I'm a little sad I can't remember eating, holding, whatever, the first ever egg I got. I don't even remember holding it. The last 2-3years I've felt like I've been reliving the whole thing

An absolute chaos of a day.
Elder sister and husband came up from East Sussex to visit. Only one problem. They were a day early!
All the arrangements I had made for Saturday wouldn't fit on Friday.:he
Got about an hour and half with the chickens this morning, sister came to the allotments and then it was rush rush rush. I just got back to the allotments in time to give them half an hour out, get them fed and watered and off to roost before dark. I can hear my bed calling me.😴

Usually people put a hole in the ends and blow the egg out.
I have the first egg of each of my original 10, plus the first egg of the first chick my son picked out that lived at our family’s farm. We put their name on it along with the date laid, and keep them in a clear carton as keepsakes. 😊

Our new group should start laying in the next month or two…the fall tends to make it a bit later. We are hoping by Thanksgiving for the first from these girls, just around the time the older group will be taking a break or slowing for winter.
