I really want to spend my last few years in England's green and pleasant land(the egg thief's home land.),

We've got green but as for the pleasant...
It's not the country the egg thief may remember and certainly not as I recall from my younger days.

Marans are soft like kittens in my opinion! My girl shep is the softest, cuddliest hen I've met. She puts my satin silkies to shame in fluff and how she feels to pet.

Fat Bird got quite cuddly in her old age and she was a Marans. Lots of stuff about her in By Bobs thread. Easy to find if you search by her name.

Our Marans roosters get a kick out of humans, but the Marans hens want little to do with me.

When I realized how soft they were, I started sneaking pets when they were on the roost. Plumbus seems to dig it. Lorraine, on the other hand, started roosting the other direction She's not having it.

Tax: the ladies in their salad days, way back during the 8 weeks when Plumb actually laid eggs.

That is, unfortunately, true. Maybe someday the world will straighten out. (when I win the lottery and can charter a plane so my feathered and furry babies can fly in comfort..LOL) It isn't horrible in South Carolina, it just isn't England.
