Here's some tax for all the Christmas food irrelevance; Fforest

How about the serving technique? In flames, fuelled by brandy! Oddly enough, it tastes delicious, especially with vanilla cream or sauce. The standard accompaniment, brandy butter, I don't like though.
A lifetime ago my mother (coming late on Christmas Eve from a party) dropped the brandy butter she had brought as a gift on her mother-in-law’s doorstep.
Weirdly, the only substitute to be found was a bottle of Advocaat.
Turns out that it is so much better than brandy butter it immediately became the new family tradition.
Advocaat with whipped cream on warm mince pies is also excellent!

Love that story! Advocaat is one of those drinks I have once in a blue moon and then think why don't I drink this more often? :gig I can imagine it's very nice as a sort of sauce on mince pies, or indeed quite a few other desserts :drool

I think our Christmas meal maps fairly well with your Thanksgiving, minus anything pumpkin. Turkey and all the trimmings etc. Since you indulge in late November it seems entirely natural not to do it all again a month later :p:lol: I usually can't wait to get back to some not-rich food by the time we get through all the leftovers :D
We do turkey for Thanksgiving, but now do ham for Christmas.

Mince pie!

We have faux mincemeat pie, made from apples and raisins. My grandmother and mother used the None Such brand compressed block as a base, but it's not available anymore so I make my own.
