The cake. Well it was heavy man. It tastes okay; the no added sugar while strange didn't detract from the overall decent taste but the cake needs to be lighter and I'm not sure how one goes about achieving that with winter cakes like this. Five out of ten is my mark.
It sounds like you want to try what's called a 'light fruit cake' next time  5/10 isn't bad for a first attempt; maybe some sweet sherry or dessert wine as the alcoholic element would compensate for the missing sugar if you do try it again?
It was nice to be able to help out with the cooking and take a bit of the load off the eldest.
that's the key thing; sharing the load. Nobody really cares what it tastes like at the end of the day; it's the company that counts at Christmas.

One and a half hours today. An easy stroll from the eldests house to the field and back. Eldest's husband picked me up from my flat in the morning and youngest drove me home in the evening.
I've had a difficult week leading up to Christmas day, family stuff over half a century old that one of my siblings has dragged up from the past has stirred up all sorts of resentment and malice. I needed what was as usual a lovely day with the eldest and husband, youngest and nephew and the girls mother, plus a few drop by guest in the morning. They do it every year, no drama, friendly loving people making the day a pleasure for all.

The cauliflower cheese I made on the other hand was as the eldest put it, banging.:D Nine out of ten.
The pate worked well as did the marinated olives and the roasted parsnips. Verdict on the nut roast won't be in until the 28th.

Tull's comb and wattles are getting reder. She's eating more but still not enough in my estimation. They'll have their Christmas dinner tomorrow.

What...is that thing?
I'm sorry about the family pot-stirrers. My dh's younger sister is that way, always trying to get people upset. We've not seen her since their mother died about 8 years ago, don't miss the drama.

My second attempt at an apple and cranberry pie came out much better than last year's.

I dropped a couple of slices of cake around to a couple of friends who are on low sugar diets. The rating has gone up :celebrate They both liked it and one rated the cake 7 out of 10 and the other rated it at 6.5 out of 10.

It looks great Perris. I didn't ice mine, or use marzipan.
there's a ton of sugar in both, so if you're under orders to reduce sugar, they're obvious candidates for the chop. I can't help feeling it's a shame though; otoh my dentist would probably prefer it if I followed suit .
