Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I would be so worried that one of them would find a shiny bit of glass...
I remember Chippy finding a piece of broken glass and grabbing it before I could stop her. Fortunately, she just rattled it around in her beak for a second and then dropped it. I was so relieved. I quickly picked it up and threw it in the trash before Skeksis could get a go at it.

Strong winds are the reason why we have a polytunnel instead of a green house. The worse that we've seen is getting the tarp shredded and two broken loops ; if we had had a greenhouse of the same size, it would have been a disaster.

I don't like the polytunnel because the tarp needs to be replaced every five years or so, and apart from reusing smaller pieces of it, I dont think there is a way to dispose of it with no environmental issue.
I've been trying to get that shed and the greenhouse taken down since they got put up
Will you do without, or find another type that could be more resistant to storms?

Polytunnel tax : wind gives Théo self respect a little blow.

Two hours today.
Looks like there was a bit of wind overnight. The green house went from this, damage from the last storm,

to this, last nights damage. There's broken glass everywhere.

The group treasurer and I got most of the glass up and the frame in more manageable sections for taking to the council tip.

The chickens were reluctant to venture far into the field. I guess the greenhouse must have made a lot of noise when it blew over. We've been cleaning up after this one ex member on and off for days.

More strong wind gusts to come apparently.

Round to the youngest for a chat and some dinner. By the time I headed home the rain had started again, the fast buses had stopped running so I caught a late train.
Standing at the station in the rain.

Ugh! Hopefully that will be the worst of it this season!

If I ever have the space and the money (pigs might fly!) I’d give both a go as both last longer than more conventional growing structures & have better environmental credentials than polytunnels.
I know they deliver all over but not sure if people have similar locally to them.

Those would make amazing duck and chicken runs!!!

There are a couple of greenhouse ideas that I love..
This one because it mostly uses old windows and it has an eclectic/cottage look:

and this one, because it is more practical:
