😑

Three and a half hours today. Warm and sunny.
Mow is spending more time than usual sitting down. She's finding the heat difficult. She had her wings open during the day at 25C and above and when she goes to roost she has her wings open, at least for fifteen minutes.
Everybody is enjoying the extra time I've been at the field recently. Decent weather makes a lot of difference. Tull is pissing Fret off. I saw Fret go into battle order today when Tull suantered over and tried to get in a dust bath with Fret. Tull just slides off but doesn't seem to learn. Tull is quite hard work. Once they arein the field a have a thing length of cane I use to guide them out of the places they shouldn't be; mostly on plots but sometimes just too close to the road, or too deep into the bushes behind the compost bins which is a fox route. The rest just need a hand wave to move them on; Tull needs a tap on the arse.

On my plot which I am having to use some of because the new locations in the extended run aren't ready yet. Off to get the gate posts with the group treasurer Saturday morning.

Mow rarely gets on the coop extension roost bar with the others. She's either out, or goes straight to roost in the coop. She's usually first in. The Jackdaw thinks it should eat with the chickens. Sometimes Mow chases it off.

Awww, poor Mow; I’m sorry she’s struggling a bit. Is she older than the others? I still haven’t made it all the way through the thread.

Lovely mixed colours.
Are you expanding your flock or selling?
good question - both for the moment!

What I'm doing is not breaking broodies, and this is the consequence :lol: The third broody's clutch was due to hatch last night, so it's getting a bit like 3D chess, with 1 month old chicks, 1 week old chicks, and 1 day old chicks to navigate :th🤪

It didn't seem fair to prevent young hens expressing their broody tendencies because the place is already full of oldies and middle-agers. Anyway, I'll have to face the consequences soon. I'll either have to sell or cull some, but I'm putting that off as long as possible.

If its getting a bit too crowded or overwhelming you possibly can sell a mother hen with chicks to someone?

I did this once with a hen I wasn’t very attached too. She gladly took the hen with 2 chicks, probably young cockerels.
She was pleased to take the 3 of them bc she had only one bantam hen left after a predator attack.

Oh boy. Sounds like a lot to deal with! I suppose you could limit the number of eggs any one broody gets to hatch to slow the pace of growth.
On the other hand your chickens are such lookers I am hoping there are people who would want them.
