I just rehomed her today with 4 of the other chicks. The ppl that took her have prior experience with scissorbeaks. I gave them the rundown on how she was struggling.I'm pleased to read you've found a way to ensure she gets some food down her.![]()

Thanks Shad, that's very reassuring.I imagine your hens are well fed in general and a few days off their feed won't do them nay harm.
Egg and Salmon is fine. I give fish to the sick generally.
I can only think of a couple of times chickens have gone off their food for a bit, once when the roof of their coop got blown off and the coop blown over. They were not at all impressed by that. And after the Husky attack that killed Ruffles.
I was never quite sure if they were grieving for Ruffles or just shaken up.
Chickens can survive for a surprisngly long time without food or water; there are reports of chickens surviving for over a week or more without either, some longer. Thanks Shad, that's very reassuring.
They don't seem hungry, they're preening which is normal for this time of day, so they must've had some pellets already. But very few poops were dropped overnight and they weren't big ones.Chickens can survive for a surprisngly long time without food or water; there are reports of chickens surviving for over a week or more without either, some longer.
They do get put out by the weather sometimes but I've never heard of them dying of starvation because of it.
That looks like a sensible arrangement. I would use a heavy guage hardware cloth rather than chicken wire.I replaced the metal sheets with chicken wire on the south and east sides of the coop to take advantage of the southeast summer winds. It's much more comfortable and I don't worry if I need to keep them penned up in the afternoon. the heat index is over 100F every day now. Next week we'll see 100 with a index of 110 or more.View attachment 3131424
I'm glad you rehomed her with some company. I always rehomed a pair or more.I just rehomed her today with 4 of the other chicks. The ppl that took her have prior experience with scissorbeaks. I gave them the rundown on how she was struggling.
I would agree if the predator threat was higher. I believe that due to the number of my dogs (12) it keeps predators at bay. All my runs are one inch chicken wire and the only loss to a predator was a duck with a bad leg. At that point we weren't penning them up at night. After that we did and later rehomed them to a family with a big pond and other ducks. I've lost 2 chickens to 2 different dogs whom both are broken from messing with chickens now. One of the dogs being the female husky we talked about .That looks like a sensible arrangement. I would use a heavy guage hardware cloth rather than chicken wire.
You'll pardon me if I don't toast to that oneLet me know when you're dead and I'll raise a few glasses of decent single malt for you.![]()
Did you have a bad storm ? I hope you didn't have any damageWell she looks in great health!
I've had problems with the hens the last two days. They were put off their food by extreme winds and rain.
I'll make them egg and salmon treat to fill up at lunch time. But other than that, what would you do?
Today the weather is calm so far, so I expect they'll go back to their usual feeding habits.
I'm glad there was a good outcome for her for the time being. Will you hear from them?I just rehomed her today with 4 of the other chicks. The ppl that took her have prior experience with scissorbeaks. I gave them the rundown on how she was struggling.
Only minor damage to my house but many other people are dealing with much worse. The new driveway gates that were installed a few months ago had some damage. The left post came loose from the wall and also the left half of the gate was no longer closing fully. But someone came to my house this morning and fixed it. This time, more and stronger bolts were used.Did you have a bad storm ? I hope you didn't have any damage

You should sell your Audi. Audi owners are evil.
