Yep. Lot's of other instances too.

And what's the point of us collectively building wealth if the housing of so many is inadequate.

The other day I learned there are more than 20,000 people without housing in Adelaide, so some new social housing will be constructed: A measely 40 homes.

Meanwhile rents grow faster than wages and there's too much competition for rental properties. Landlords prefer people without kids, so we find mothers and children living in cars. It's not good enough.

I'm speaking of conditions in Adelaide. I hope things are much better elsewhere.
That seems a lot. Here in Bristol there are 11,000 waiting to be housed. This doesn't necessarily mean they are all homeless. Some are transfers, some are evictions, some in temporary accomodation...

Lower % of population in Adelaide. They probably count it differently in the two countries though so may not be comparable.

The reason it is so prevalent here is that so many people were able to buy houses during the pandemic and move out of the city. There have been housing developments going up in farm fields all over the place. Most people that have been here for some time already have livestock. Lots of horses, cattle, goats, and chickens around here. I have nothing against people moving out of the city but when they all impulse buy livestock and dump them 6 months later it's a lot harder to be welcoming.
I am replying to a post from February.

That is terrible to hear. Yes, I got chickens because of the pandemic! But there is no way I am dumping them. How could you??? They are so cute, smart, and cuddly (sorry we have very sweet chickens). They always make me feel better, not mention their manure so yummy for the garden... My life has turned to a complete new chapter because of these little creatures.

And we have not travelled much since we got chickens due to our unhelpful/unfriendly city neighbors (we have to live in a small city due to work), but it's all worth it.

On a happy note, I know a lot of pandemic chicken owners who fell in love with them.
