Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I like that many other countries are more humane, and have more interest in animal welfare. I wish we in the US did as well. I don't feel like people as a whole, can advance to a higher level, if we don’t begin to show empathy to other species.
I'm pretty picky about who gets my chicks.
I don't remove chicks, until the hen is done with them. I won't rehome one lone chicken, unless it is an older cockrel or Rooster going to a new flock. I request pictures of their coop and run. I ask a lot of questions. I would never be able to make a living selling chickens. 🤣 But as long as I do it this way, I can sleep at night.
Do you get a lot of interest?

Washers and srews were here when I got home this evening.:celebrate:rolleyes:
It took me half an hour to get all the nails out of the timber.
I picked the last of the raspberries this afternoon. Enough to warrent making some custard to go with them.:drool
Some of the apples are as ready as they're going to get. I brought home a rucksack full of Bramly cookers and I think Pippins and something else.
Henry had dark points on his comb late this evening but is behaving normally.

Oh yum! Custard! Do you have a recipe you can share with us?

About this hatching business...
It's funny reading the above about hatch rates. I didn't worry about it. I limited the eggs, usually six, and hoped the would hatch three.
I didn't worry if the abandoned nests before term.
I assume people consider hatch rates if they sell chickens, or rely on their meat.
The worst thing for me was once the chicks were mobile enough the mothers tended to keep to maybe one or two cover spots and the area around the nest she hatched in. After that she and the chicks could be anywhere and I've lost hens who defended their chicks. I would rather the predator took a chick.

I think so, thought I don't think there is anything much different to other custard recipies.
I may be wrong on this one as I think I don't like either version - but I vaguely remember that custard is one of those things that means something different on either side of the Atlantic.
I think it is like biscuits and pants (only in the sense of English/American English confusion).

That is exactly why I asked for his recipe! So now we wait to see if he’ll share his Shadrach’s Bristol biscuit pants custard! :gig

Not again!:thI had to look it up since you mentioned it & my poor little mind is still reeling.
