I'm sorry for you. I moved to Nice 17 years ago after a last minute failed move to my dream mountainous left-wing city. I barely survived the humid heat and the conservative politics... and it most certainly didn't make me a better person . I did reach my goal of moving to a higher altitude after 14 years by the sea.
Ask Shadrach for advice on surviving a move to a climatic and politically hostile environment ?

Politics. I've had the same political views since I was a teenager. They are not suitable for what is basically an American forum.
Instead:
The last people one wants running a country are the people who want to do the job.

Patriotism kills a lot of people.

It's always get more rather than use less.

Well, Florida is pretty much the capital for RW conspiracy theories and the home of the ex comander and insurrectionist. NJ, a Democratic stronghold. I have been to neither.

My husband and I say political leadership should be like jury service or conscription, very competent people should be nominated and then they have to do the job for a year or so, for the public good. But the whole population first has to agree on the direction we want to go, so these 'forced volunteer' leaders can guide us there. So good luck with any of that!

Anyone who WANTS to get elected into politics shouldn't ever have any power within their grasp. Politics shouldn't exist as a career path.

I would not want forced service teachers, doctors or waste management people.
I want people who feel called and compelled to be running our governments, make the world a better, safer and kinder place. I do believe in getting big money, big business agendas out and setting term limits.

No forced jobs except the actual politicians, to clarify. Not the entire government/public service, just replacing the show boating morons we 'elect' to 'lead the country'.

It's an idea that can't actually work, but it would be nice to think we could all work for the public good again, in our own ways.

I would not want to be forced to be a politician.... I was convinced to be a union steward, which was bad enough.
