Every now and then I think of the three chicks who joined the circusI think I'm going broody for broodies.View attachment 3105045
This I think has been brought on by my bout of picture sorting, wondering what to do about a replacement for Henry in the long term and the broody picture competition currently running on BYC.
I have lots (note I didn't type ton here for those who read Ribh's thread) of broody pictures, some of which fill in the missing half of the reproductive and care process which when looking at the majority of BYC broody pictures one might be forgiven for believing doesn't exist.
A few of my favourites.

I didn't even know there was a movie made from Papillon. Do they mention it means butterfly? How could you clip a butterfly's wings or refrain it from flyingI got there about half past six. There was still a tiny amount of feed left and more layers pellets in the bin.
I left at nine fifteen.
Very pleased with the progress I'm making with Henry. I managed to give him a proper inspection this evening. No fuss when I took him off the perch. He just sat in my hand with a resigned look on his face as I checked his rear end and his feet.
I did Matilda as well. No fuss from her either.View attachment 3106080
I have a bag of layers pellets being delivered tomorrow.
I've been looking for a better feed. I'm going to give this a try.

This is Dustin. C clipped her wings. Dustin doesn't seem bothered and still managed to fly up to my shoulder.

In my experience bantams in general don't need much encouragement to go broody.
I would 2nd that. All mine spent the summer sitting on air or infertile eggs.

It's springIt must be something in the air; I was feeling the same Shad, and out of the blue one of mine has flipped today too; I hope to get some Braekel eggs for her
How is your cat today? I hope it will be all right .Also have a 8 year old cat not in good shape today has my attention .
@Ribh does it not tire and starve them that they spend so much time brooding ? Do you leave them be or do you try to "break" them ? (I hate the idea of it!).
Excellent video, you've got to love the drama ! Chicken tv is so much better than people's tv@ManueB : Shad's seen these but this is 4 of my girls @ the beginning of summer. I removed Wrold [the Wyandotte bantam] so the Vorwerk could lay but it is pointless trying to break them as they go broody again almost immediately. Olivia went broody with 2 others shortly afterwards & Wrold's sister, Alpia, eventually joined her. Of 8 bantams someone was broody all summer. They do come of the nest to eat, drink, poop & dustbath & so long as they are doing those things daily & they stay in good health I leave them be. It does mean no eggs but I have plenty of standard layers so that's not an issue & probably better for their overall health than constant laying.
I hope they will be alright. When you're not used to it, must be sad culling new life even if it's the right thing to do.Both babies look to be mostly ok, so I won't have to go through the unpleasant act of culling.
