Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I am getting slightly anxious about broody Chipie.
She certainly checks all the usual symptoms of a broody I've read about : puffed up, screaming like death, clucking and running like mad when she comes out.
But, I'm worried about her eyes. It seems something dark, ancient and evil is lurking in there.
Should I rename her Nyarlathotep ?

Dark and ancient undoubtably. Evil; no. Only humans and the monsters they dream of have that quality.

I got brought a sick hen this evening. She has bumble foot on both feet. :(
On the worst foot the scab has come off and the wound has healed over leaving the core in place which is now infected and swollen.
I explained what needed to be done but I can't do it myself unless I took the hen for a few days and in my current living circumstances it isn't possible.
The owner took the hen to a vet and all the vet did was prescribe antibiotics.

I've got another sick hen coming on Thursday. From the sound of it she has an ear infection. I can do something about that.

He's got his feet in the right place this time. Notice the position of the hens wings. Decent balance as well.:love

It's looking great. Are you still planning to set it up on legs?
I am. The legs and basic frame are built. The frame will raise the coop by 60cm which means the chickens can get under it for shade and protection from the elements. I will once the coop is on the frame and the whole thing leveled up, board up two sides leaving the front and maybe the back open.

That sounds like it'll provide reliable protection from the weather.

Who's helping you lift it onto the legs? Will its floor need support?

You have opened a clinic?!

I wish Henry could teach Théo how to do it.
It does seem pretty tricky to master the required balance compared to our way of doing things.
Got the coop up to the fence ready to go in tomorrow.

I know that not the point, but I love it's look. Makes me think of some kind of space ship designed in the 70s. Can't wait to see it on it's feet!

If the 11 people at the talk each show up with their unwell chicken, it's a good thing they weren't 50.

Laserbeak keeps sneaking into the nesting box to lay eggs where Sky is. Skeksis has been using one of the upper level boxes.
Skeksis got the brains and Sky got the looks, so what's Laserbeak's asset ? 😁
Faux pas. You don't say "merry funeral!" at someone's wake.
This may be a sensitive subject. I couldn't find any translation to understand what you meant by "someone's wake" , would you or anyone agree to rephrase ?

We don't have the equivalent of memorial day, only specific commemorative days of one event.
