I think British custard doesn’t really exist in the US and maybe is closest to pudding (which has a whole different meaning in the UK!).

Why would you freeze this stuff? It should be hot & pourable unless being used in something like a beesting cake, in which case it needs to be considerably firmer & a true custard made with eggs. I love custard though I don't often have the patience to make the real thing.
