I'm guessing their access to the rest of the allotments will be more curtailed if people are back growing...? Nothing chickens like more than freshly tilled earth - and they don't know it's just been planted, or prepared for planting But your great observation about the fence means you can plant chicken-fav things outside next to the fence, so the chickens can forage them, while not being able to eat them to destruction - win : win

Yup. Unfortunately they won't get as much freedom but they'll still get out.

I was looking on google to identify the poop I found on top of the coop .
Is it from a marter or another species?.

Look were it brought me:

The poop with next to it 2 bantam eggs (about 35 - 40 grams).

Three hours today. We went out under close supervision. You know what they're like.
Oh cool, someones been digging. Next it's "guys, come and check this out. We're okay here, the humans have been digging here."
Luckily they spend twenty minutes at the compost here, five minutes kick stuff around on my plot and then headed for their favourite bush. They all sunbathed. Even Henry got a wing out. I sat on the bench there for the next hour watching them soak up a few rays.

Henry took Lima and Carbon, I escorted Ella. Fret was fretting in one of the nest boxes.
Once everyone was back in the allotment run I hacked out the ground at the back of the coop.

Looks like owl shit to me.

Thanks for pointing out it might be from an owl. Googled a bit more. I think it might be fallow balls or so-called pellets from a little owl, a sparrow hawk or another bird of pray.

We had rain last night and our temperature is in the 60s.

3 hours today but only in the allotment run. I had things to do in the coop run and now people have planted things in some of the plots the chickens need close supervision when out on the allotments.
It didn't rain as such, just dribbled every now and then.
Got another side dug out and heavy duty mesh at the bottom. I'm hoping the mesh will stop the rats just walking through the fence. It should also discourage anything that tries to pull the original fence out of the ground and go under it, not that i think that's possible on this stretch.
There is lots of gravel along this stretch so once again a spade or fork isn't suitable for digging. I broke this up with a wide blade pick and then went over it with a spade. There were lots of worms which is a promising sign. The chickens had fun pulling them out of the clods of earth I hacked out.

We got 20 minutes out and then it pissed down for the duration. It was still raining when I got home. Chickens were dry. I was dripping and had a numb arse from sitting on the roost bar.
One of the people who lives in one of the houses that back onto the allotment stopped by for a chat. We've exchanged greetings a few times. It was interesting to hear yet another version of what has gone on here at the allotments. They said they were going to bring me out a cup of tea next time they see me out there in bad weather. Apparently all the houses on that stretch have seen what they call the chicken man.
I was hoping to get all the rubble and wood I've dug out from the side I've just finished out of the run today.
