You don't say how big your yard will be, but with your pair a fairly small space may well prove to be adequate especially if they have access to the house.
Dig up the concrete. Plant a few hardy shrubs.

About time the staff gives an opportunity for new recognition medals on BYC. ‘Bird whisperer’ : the ultimate medal for the strangest bird-attracting creatures among us.
Such a medal would suit you Shadrach.

I'm not really into the medal business. It's nice that people feel that others deserve them but in the end it's what one writes and does that should carry weight, not the badges one has.

What kind of hen is Clio ? Is she an Ex-batt or layer hybrid ?

Henry went off to roost early. He really likes the new coop. He waits until I've cleaned it out, inspects the job and gets in and starts making nesting sounds.

It may have taken him forever, but in the end he made his Shadrach's folly

The medals are rather discreet and actually I didn't notice or hear about them before I got the friend thing.
I think it's too bad because when I first asked for help here, I was fully aware that on a forum the quality of answers you will get varies a lot depending on who answers, but I didn't have a clue who were the people that gave reliable advice.
I think if the educator's badge was very visible, it would make people who have only been around for a short time aware that this is an answer they can really trust. I say this even though I'm not at all into the medal thing either. It's not about ego, it's about helping other chicken keepers.

It's the same for the articles. I wish there was some kind of peer reviews that would highlight the best ones instead of a competition.

An update on my hen Piou-piou wounded under her left wing. The vet said yesterday it had been recovering correctly, but the feathers now regrowing around and on it were hindering healing and Piou-piou kept pecking them : she trimmed all of those. She prescribed an antibiotic, Azithromycin and and said to keep applying Betadine three times a day.

I don't know what more BYC could do to be honest. The information, right down to what the various badges mean and the sites ethos are all explained.
It's getting people to read them without being draconian about it.

I would also like to add that I have had lots of posts deleted and have received warning points.
All but two or three were quite reasonable given the stated ethos of the site although I might not have thought so in the heat of the moment.
Despite this, I'm still here and according to the box on the left with my awards in have in the eyes of the staff and some members proven to be a valued member.
I get a bit pissy when reading people complaining about the moderation and bias.
There are lots of factions on BYC and keeping the communication between the factions and differing views is an impossible task given the range of ages, religions and politics.
No it isn't perfect but all in all, especially given the sites age and view inclusive policy they do a pretty good job.
There are always things that could be better but I can think of a few sites I've been a member of that have a less difficult balancing acting and make a far worse job of it.

I agree. I even received an email when I joined, with a shortcut to some of these links. I did the introduction post and looked too quickly at the rest, I will confess guilty of not engaging the brain. It is very thorough.
From my experience as a librarian I will say that about 90% of the population doesn't read so much information about how to use a website, unless looking for a specific information, which means you would already know what you are looking for.
A student in information seeking class told me once that instead of spending so much time to explain our search tools we should spend the time to make them more intuitive .

I think the educator badge could be made more visible on posts, to attract attention.

As for the articles, it's easy to see good articles that have been written for some time with a lot of reviews or by well known members, but some very good articles written recently by less well known people need to be picked out in all the new articles that are of little interest.

I have no complaint with BYC, quite the opposite, and if my post sounded like it it's probably due to my using a language that is not native. I think it's an amazing website and have said so on your thread before.
