Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Yer late. :p That's taxable as well.
Lots of good humans on this thread and if that's what you like read the tax notice and grab yourself a perch on the branch.

Cleo handles my taxes.

A much better day than yesterday I'm pleased to write. We even got out onto the allotments for half an hour. Henry led them all back to the coop when the next band of rain appeared on the horizon. A couple of hours there altogether.
Lima was delighted to get out and ran accross the plots to the compost heap as soon as I opened the gate the rest following behind. Henry waited for me to sit on the bench and then herded Ella (last as uasual) over. We did a bit on my plot and the had a little plain pasta as a treat once we had settled in the coop extension to shelter from the wind which brought the rain.

One of the people who initially set up the allotments with C's partner sent me a text asking if I would be there and they turned up at around 6pm. Apparently they had heard things about me. They were obviously somewhat surprised to find Henry under my legs as I sat on the bench and the hens enjoying their time foraging. It seems Henry has a bit of a reputation for not being exactly friendly. We had a walk around the allotments as this visitor told me a little about what the place used to be like. This person still keeps beehives at the allotments and as they were showing me the shed they used to keep their beekeeping kit in this little chap arrived and after giving me the once over, perched on my shoulder.

Henry went off to roost early. He really likes the new coop. He waits until I've cleaned it out, inspects the job and gets in and starts making nesting sounds.:love

There are a few community gardens in the urban center near me (in the US). There are also many farms around who would most likely loan you a small plot of land to keep a few chickens on. Maybe that would be a solution? If you had an auto-door, a secure large run, and could get there almost every day to make sure there was adequate food & water…there are tons of horse boarding places, I bet you could work a deal out to “board” chickens, if you could pay a small monthly boarding fee…im trying to be creative so your flock can have access to outside. Are there any semi-rural areas within 30 minutes?
Doubtful. Plus i do not wish to have to commute to my chickens.

About time the staff gives an opportunity for new recognition medals 🎖️ on BYC. ‘Bird whisperer’ : the ultimate medal for the strangest bird-attracting creatures among us.
Such a medal would suit you Shadrach.
