Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I would also like to add that I have had lots of posts deleted and have received warning points.
All but two or three were quite reasonable given the stated ethos of the site although I might not have thought so in the heat of the moment.
Despite this, I'm still here and according to the box on the left with my awards in have in the eyes of the staff and some members proven to be a valued member.
I get a bit pissy when reading people complaining about the moderation and bias.
There are lots of factions on BYC and keeping the communication between the factions and differing views is an impossible task given the range of ages, religions and politics.
No it isn't perfect but all in all, especially given the sites age and view inclusive policy they do a pretty good job.
There are always things that could be better but I can think of a few sites I've been a member of that have a less difficult balancing acting and make a far worse job of it.
I am on this site alone. I don't like politics and bickering associated especially with Facebook. I know that there's a variety of viewpoints here and like the fact that people on here show more courtesy and respect for each other.

I agree. I even received an email when I joined, with a shortcut to some of these links. I did the introduction post and looked too quickly at the rest, I will confess guilty of not engaging the brain. It is very thorough.
From my experience as a librarian I will say that about 90% of the population doesn't read so much information about how to use a website, unless looking for a specific information, which means you would already know what you are looking for.
A student in information seeking class told me once that instead of spending so much time to explain our search tools we should spend the time to make them more intuitive 🤣.

I think the educator badge could be made more visible on posts, to attract attention.

As for the articles, it's easy to see good articles that have been written for some time with a lot of reviews or by well known members, but some very good articles written recently by less well known people need to be picked out in all the new articles that are of little interest.

I have no complaint with BYC, quite the opposite, and if my post sounded like it it's probably due to my using a language that is not native. I think it's an amazing website and have said so on your thread before.
Yes, the articles that don't receive the attention they should is one of the problems I make you right on. I check the article section for new articles daily and as you may have noticed, I link to them on this thread if I think they are good articles.
There seems to be a reluctance by some to promote their articles. One doesn't get the article noticed if one doesn't promote it. Entering the article competitions is one way. Linking to it in a relevant thread is another and can save an awful lot of tying the same stuff over and over again.
The same is applicable to some less vocal or newer members who might provide very sound advice but get overlooked due to lack of badges/time on BYC etc. In such cases click the like button and where relevant should youu reply, mention them in your post.

morels - lucky you!
Yes, lucky indeed! We look forward to morel season every year. My other current favorite is chicken of the woods. And not this kind (also my tax):

Andre-greatadventure.jpg

Andre has a distaste for heavy machinery. We're building a house, and once in a blue moon, Andre gets spooked by a truck, hops his fence, and disappears into fox/coyote/bobcat/bear/rattlesnake/raccoon-filled woods. Our builder's so nice that he now calls from up at the build site when there's an incoming delivery to say, "Put the rooster up."

How do you cook it? We have some growing on old oaks, and I sold some of its fruit last autumn to a restaurant down the road because I didn't know what to do with it and I knew they'd know how to get the best from it, but this year I think I must try some before I sell the rest :p

Andre is very handsome, and a better sort of chicken in the woods than any fungus :D

A pleasant afternoon allbeit a bit chilly at 8C.
Everybody got out for a bit over an hour in the allotments and a further hour in the allotment run. I didn't do a lot apart from sit and watch the chickens.

Before I left for Catalonia I had a flat about a mile up the road from where I am living now. While I was there I got to know a homeless man who I met at a nearby gym. We used to train together and for a few months, up until I left, he stayed at my flat. I had the space and I liked the man. I met him on the bus on the way home tonight. He moved into my old flat for a couple of months. I had already paid for a couple of months in advance when I left. He is still living locally in another flat. Really good to see him.

Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking about. I found really interesting every article that you linked and I think the people around here who read them did as well. I would love a corner for recommended articles by members like you that could highlight those less visible articles.

That is a beautiful picture of Henry. That would be the one to print if you ever do that with pictures!
(My grand-father on my mum's side was called Henri, by the way, it doesn't sound the same in french though.)

Loved your story- a wonderful turn of fate. Someone did something of the kind for me when I left my husband and it made a huge difference.
I find that chicken watching is an acceptable substitute for working, anytime.
I really agree with you on that one! In fact it's becoming a bit of an argument with my partner!

Tax. When she's not putting on the broody show she's stealing food.
