The bantams were not a local breed,
The Marans were French, bought in Marans, France and the crosses were a cross between the two breeds.

I guess the search for this tiny bantam "breed's" name continues then. Getting Marans from French stock seems like a dream come true!

And one of my Dominique bantam pullets, "Tamar":

The Sussex are almost 6 months old, the Dominiques are 4 months old. No eggs yet.

Beautiful birds! I always read about people here on BYC saying that their pullets have started laying by 4 to 5 months! Even my ISA brown don't start till 6 months! Totally get the struggle of waiting for eggs

There are. Speckled Sussex are fairly common in the area I live in and on the other side of the country (East) the Red Sussex is quite popular.

That's interesting. Red Sussex are one of the rarest sussex varieties here.

I may be close to holding the record - Bernadette took 11 months before deciding she would lay an egg.

Here is Bernadette. She now lays 2-3 eggs a week with no discernible pattern to when she will feel in the mood to do so.

Wow, that's a lot to wait for the first egg! She definitely took her sweet old time, but at least she's pretty
