Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

We're all off the rails here. I owe tax as well but it's been raining for two days. Hopefully the sun comes out and I can pay tomorrow.
I can pay some taxes for both of us.

Here's one of my Speckled Sussex bantam roosters, "Samuel":

And one of my Dominique bantam pullets, "Tamar":

The Sussex are almost 6 months old, the Dominiques are 4 months old. No eggs yet.

Beautiful birds! I always read about people here on BYC saying that their pullets have started laying by 4 to 5 months! Even my ISA brown don't start till 6 months! Totally get the struggle of waiting for eggs

There are. Speckled Sussex are fairly common in the area I live in and on the other side of the country (East) the Red Sussex is quite popular.
That's interesting. Red Sussex are one of the rarest sussex varieties here.
I'll share some taxes for myself and anyone else who needs it :D

I may be close to holding the record - Bernadette took 11 months before deciding she would lay an egg.

Here is Bernadette. She now lays 2-3 eggs a week with no discernible pattern to when she will feel in the mood to do so.

Wow, that's a lot to wait for the first egg! She definitely took her sweet old time, but at least she's pretty:love
