Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Four hours today. Some sunshine, some heavy rain.
The more grey chick has a cut on her foot which I hope ive disinfected and she's on her second day of coccidiosis treatment.
I tested positive for Covid this evening.:(
She's eating and drinking but looks like this when the others are alert and active.

Fret is slowly easing up on the parenting. She calls them a lot less and the chicks are often 3 or 4 metres away doing their own thing.

Hope both you and the chick have a speedy recovery.

I love Test Cricket and the Barmy Army! It gets so intense. I don't mind the limited over cricket but prefer test. I am actually pretty sport mad..Rugby (egg chasing.), Football ⚽, Ice Hockey and Baseball (because I have supported the same club since I was a child and can't help myself..). NFL (American Football), is boring to me, too much stop start and advert breaks. We do not really watch any other television.
I like test cricket too but many others haven't the patience for it.

I'm not keen on limited overs. It's just not cricket :gig

Hope both you and the chick have a speedy recovery.
Same hopes here Shad. Hope the chick recovers well.
And for you: do not get sick to start with…. or do not get significantly sick and if its turns out to be a bummer I hope you recover as quick as Speedy Gonzales. 💕

Thanks everyone. I'm still standing and about to go to the allotments. One day at a time and all that.
Lots of chicken observations and as little exertion as possible & hopefully you will get through the Covid infection unscathed!
Sending healing thoughts (for what they are worth) for you and the chick :fl:fl

When in Dublin, I usually stay with an acquaintance whose house is within earshot of Croke Park. One time there was a game was on and the crowd roaring was fantastic! It's a shame we didn't go to the match but I think that was the day I'd put aside for art and museums. And I'm embarrassed to say that's not a joke 😳

Hurling is an ancient game. It's mentioned several times in "The Boyhood Deeds of Cúchulainn" from the heroic Ulster Cycle which dates from the 9th century in earliest written form, but is probably much older in oral tradition. The Irish Celts continued the game but it likely has roots in Bronze Age Central Europe :old

‘So he (Cúchulainn) set off, with a toy shield made out of sticks and a toy javelin and his hurling-stick and ball. He kept tossing his javelin ahead and catching it again before its tail hit the ground.

‘Then he ran up to Conchobor’s boys without getting them to pledge his safety. He didn’t know that no one went out to them on their field of play without getting a promise of safety from them.

They flung three times fifty javelins at him, and he stopped them all on his shield of sticks. Then they drove all their hurling-balls at him, and he stopped every ball on his breast. They threw their hurling-sticks at him, three times fifty of them: he dodged so well that none of them touched him, except for a handful that he plucked down as they shot past.'

--from the Táin bo Cuailnge, Thomas Kinsella translation

Taxes.

Dusty took her kids up to roost last night. Tina has her brood roosting in the senior coop for the past two nights. All 4 chicks are exactly one month old.

The Hooligans giving their new roostmates some space. Tobias (left) looking thoughtful as usual.
