Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I have finally read the thread. :th
So happy to see the current crew, they're precious.
I heard you like roosters...will a potential boy chick suffice? 😏

Currently names Kasumi but if they end up crowing they'll be renamed Thane.

And another pic just because they're so cute and cuddly.

I've moved around a lot but I still find it stressful.
I have wander lust, but hate travelling, so I used to just hit a point where, I wanted a change of scenery and moved. (but I hate moving..) If the world ever gets sorted out, our final move will be North Yorkshire, or we will pop our clogs here.
We moved into this house 29 years ago. I tell people we'll go out horizontally. I really like the feeling of having long, deep roots.
That is likely how we will be going out. I can't imagine the world is going to get righted before we are to old to move again.
I'm 4th generation same place. Lots of stuff
My parents are hoarders, we moved them and 40+ years of junk from Phoenix back to Vermont about 9 years ago, and to South Carolina 7 years ago. Most of the stuff had not been out of the box in 40 years. It is a nightmare. I periodically go through my stuff and have a major purge. I try not to accumulate stuff that accumulates dust. LOL
I'm first generation same place. Live here almost 18 years now. Lots of stuff.
No plans to move for another 18 years or so. 🚚
If I move again, I am not taking anything but the most important bits. ;-)

You really had some catching up to do. 🤣 Welcome to this thread.

I suspect the chick is a boy. My pullet (5 months next week) has a smaller comb. How old is he? Tell us a bit more about your flock or tribe.

Feeling melancholic: Amadeo disappeared without trace yesterday afternoon.
It is really quiet here now. Wish I knew what happened to him.
Ooh, I’m so sorry 😢 for you and Amadeo.
Sh*t happens with chickens and in this case it was probably a predator.

I had 3 chickens disappear in the last 3 years. The first ( Pino) was probably taken by a buzzard. Saw one circling in the days after the disappearance. Some buzzards catch life prey. It fits with the size of my bantams. The others might have been taken by a domesticated feral cat. This cat showed up around the time of the two other disappearances. But never found as much a feather. So I m not sure and never will be.

I kept them in my Anymal archive.

she gave only 3 days? that is terrible! too bad your grandfather did not outlive her.
Yes. Those two old stubborn folk clearly had some kind of history. I wouldn't say she danced on his grave but she was rubbing her hands in glee that she got the apartment back. Hey ho.
And memories fade - maybe it was 4 days - it was absurdly and unkindly short to deconstruct a long life. So many memories of that place but also memories of me and my mother giggling hysterically at stuff that got carted off from the street corners.
