Got caught up in the bug wars. Got splatered all over my bed. Everything is leaking including my brain.
Eldest came over said I look like shite and went got husband who came with nurse from work, said I looked like shite and called in the paras.
Paras started talking about hospital. I said feck no! they are the last place you want to be if your sick unless they're cutting bits off or sowing bits on.
I may or may not be back.

^^ I'm nr. 13 who is glad to hear from you. Only wished the news was less disgusting and pitifull. In the meantime I'm glad your family doesn't live in Spain right now. Wish you well and speed recovery. And you better get back here, sooner or later!

I also prefer to go the shelter/rescue/stray route. I don't have anything against pure reds and responsible breeders but there are so many needing homes, and I like taking the ones others discarded and finding value there. A little training, love and attention, and they are fabulous. Currently, every animal in our household falls into that category, from our dog, cat, four ring neck doves and my four chickens. This is the sometimes naughty but always charming Finn, who also has a fluffy butt.

He looks a little like a kokoni! Personally I think I'll be going the responsible breeder route. We have a LOT of dogs here, and most are LGD and hunting dog mixes that go into very unfit homes, so I don't want to be supporting most of the shelters around here, who do not seem to care where the dog is placed. Worst thing of all, they provide zero resources for the people that adopt them, leaving them with no clue about training their dogs, or which trainer to turn to. I'd be very happy to foster some of these dogs in the future (and hopefully help the adopters out by providing them with resources), but their stay won't be permanent. I simply cannot handle the energy level the vast majority of these dogs have on a permanent basis. It just breaks my heart, because we have so many dogs running around, and only a few people actually want what's best for the dogs. Placing an LGD mix with a first-timer family, and giving them no resources is not the way to go, I've seen its effects first hand. And unfortunately, it happens way too often. It really makes you think if the shelters that are placing these dogs are actually interested in helping them

The big bug has taken me down too, the little fecker, I'll race you back to full health. Seriously, I've been taking cold n flu tablets, which reduces symptoms considerably. Still testing positive though, so still isolating.

I told my husband that if I had something happen, like stroke or heart attack, he is, under no circumstances to call the paras, just pick up your stuff and go fishing, because IF I wake up in a hospital, he better hope they kill me.. LOL

Finn is lovely! (animals are never really naughty, just a little precocious!)

Most shelter's do the best they can. My only problem with even a responsible breeder is that some of those dogs end up in the shelter system too.

I don't really think placing a dog with adopters that don't know anything about the influence on behaviour its genetic makeup has and/or how to deal with it is the best they can do. Providing zero resources to help these people is also iffy. What gets me the most irritated is descriptions like "snuggler trapped in a giant's body". That gives absolutely zero insight as to what this dog will be like. I'd much rather they'd be transparent from the beginning, even if it means adopting out to less homes. At least those homes know what they're adopting. I definitely acknowledge that the beginner(s) should also do their part, but you don't really know where to start, or what to trust, when you're left completely on your own. Don't get me wrong, there are some absolutely amazing rescues out there (quite a lot actually), but just like terrible breeders (although not as bad because they're not actually in it for pure profit), providing no support for the animal you're placing is very irresponsible. The last point is a valid concern, although a responsible breeder should be able to take the dog back if the first home doesn't work out, and place it with someone willing and knowledgeable enough to keep it. But is nuanced, and I am simply not involved enough in the breed communities to comment any further. Tax for dog talk
