Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I have never met an animal that I didn't love. :) You are 100% right, there are dogs that are not naturally suited to be pets, for just anyone, in any situation. Just like chickens, not everyone that keeps chickens could handle jungle fowl, for example.
I could introduce you to a few I've known that might make you change your mind.:hmm

I'm a bit concerend now and wondering if this lack of knowledge on the matter of a creatures sex is responsible for the lack of success many seem to have with male chickens.
I wonder, who can give me a reasonably comprehensive list of the differences between a male and a female chicken?
It's not as easy as one might think.

Dogs with a prey drive do kill live stock. So many injure and kill chickens, sheep and other animals. Some even attack humans. You cant just say it’s the humans (boss) fault. The strong prey drive is in some dogs without training them for it.

Next an example, but things likes this happen all the time: My brother and my parents lived next to each other. My brother had a Bouvier and my mother had chickens. One day, out of the blue the dog jumped into the run and killed two chickens. Dogs are descendants of wolves and some are not fit to live freely amongst livestock or amongst people.

In England there are a few breeds that are not allowed for this reason.

Here we don’t have a list like this but plastic surgeons did make an appeal to our gov. a few months ago, because they see a lot of (unnecessary) damages from certain types of dogs.

Dogs with high prey drive are not bad dogs. If you cannot handle a high prey drive dog, don't get one. Killing livestock comes naturally to them, as you put it you. All dogs have prey drive, or some modified version of it. I've been raised around high prey drive dogs, and while there are still high prey drive dogs on the property, I've managed to keep my chickens safe. I'm sorry, but this is very straight forward. One needs to know their limits

I would take you up on that offer. A LGD adolescent went for my neck, after I was properly introduced to it. Two years later it turned on its owner, thankfully not seriously. Still, my heart goes out to that dog, whose owners don't know how to fully handle it, and its bad breeding. One can love something, and know that it is not compatible with pet life

In fact you lose all tax benefits if what you post aren't dogs at all.

"Dog" can be used for both male and female, an umbrella term of sorts. While I use the term "b!tch" when referring to females, and "dog" for males, you can understand that it is rather complicated to do so in a public forum:)

The Netherlands is a dense populated country with 18 million people. And 1.8 million dogs. About 150,000 people are bitten by a dog every year. On average, more than thirty percent of these biting incidents are so serious that a doctor or hospital is required. Children are more often the victims of biting incidents than adults.

I have also seen what damage a dog bite can do.

Therefore. imho, every dog that causes bites incidents is a bad dog that shouldn’t live amongst people or the dog has a bad owner who should not keep dogs anymore.

Oh I agree, people reactive dogs are not compatible with pet life, and dog owners should be way more responsible with their pets. Reactivity is not the same as prey drive however. Dogs don't attack because they think we're prey
