Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

The Egg Theif and Spud are building the shade and anti-predator shelter #2. The picture is fuzzy because it was snapped through the window. If I had opened the door, Spud would have abandoned his post to come see me..lol

This is just phase one of opening their territory. We are going to bring the fence all the way up to the house so that they can come up here whenever they want. I just need to move some potentially dangerous plants. (Hydrangeas, Gladiolas and English Ivy.) For now, we have almost tripled their space, and they are loving all the activity.

we have all three of those here and the chickens just ignore them, but obviously if you feel more comfortable moving them out, you go for it! It sounds like you are really transforming your chickens' lives :love

Ditto on the plants, not so much as an exploratory nibble. They do like the Japanese Windflower at the moment though :)
Them’s going to be some happy chickens MrsNorthie!

I worry, because they have been raised by me, not a wise mother hen to teach them what is safe and what isn't. If I tell them no, they just laugh at me and do it anyway. LOL

It is an ongoing process and they love watching and participating in all the building activities.

They bring me lot's of joy and watching them explore and use their new space is fun.

Spud is doing amazing but he he going to wear himself out, running after the various groups of girls that run in opposite directions, while the other boys stay with few near the food and coop. LOL

Polka is now in broody jail, while her wild child novice broody is going to need close watching. I set some eggs under her this morning, and she has since twice gone back to the neighbouring box :th. Hey ho :hmm
Perris, if you end up with chicks may I suggest Mumbles as a Welsh place that would make a good name for a chook? It'd be especially amusing for a cockerel 🤣 😂
