Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Fabulously grumpy looking birds, will you raise it or is there a local wildlife rescue nearby?
No. Mum was around but bubs had fallen onto the ground & wasn't strong enough to fly back up into the tree. I managed to grab it & perch it on a low branch & last I saw they were roosting together.

Tax time. Marans Miss Plumbus is a beautician. Every day, Hazel and Lorraine stand in front of her for preening. Lately, molting Marans Merle has been extra interested in Plumbus' soothing services.

Next, Speckled Sussex Peck is much more white after her 2nd molt at 20 months. I've read they become more speckly as they age, but has anyone else seen a change this dramatic?

Before & after. The feathers are still growing in, but they're definitely white.

Another after. Look at that chest.

My first Speckled Sussex are about the same age, but in their first real molt.

Lots of pure white feathers.

She's having a difficult molt, and I have been watching her closely. They all appear to be done molting.

The 1st bantam I ever owned was a tree hugger. I never broke her of the habit.
well I'm pleased to say that Quincy went straight to the coops last night, so I'm hopeful she'll give it up soon :p I am fine with them hugging trees in the daytime; it's spending the night there and coming down too early that I want to discourage.
