Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

and I imagine the wall at her back will have absorbed quite a bit of sunshine since noon, so will be radiating heat back all night. Super smart girl.
I think the blue flowers are Bachelors Button (aka cornflowers). I wonder which bachelor she is dreaming about!

I also got a photo of the tenons through/under the nest box base on the Nestera, for those who haven't got one but maybe were interested in what Chaosmom and I were talking about

Tip: Buy a good camera with the possibility to phone, download apps, send/receive messages, listen to music and search info on the www.
I've been looking at the phone notabitail mentioned. I don't know. A decent camera, or someting better than what I have, is pretty expensive.

Can you find a used one? Take advantage of all those who compulsively upgrade every year?

I typically buy our phones through our cellular (mobile?) provider, and they often have a decent discount going on.

Lazy chickens.
I've noticed, throughout the day, there are times where the chickens sit around and do nothing but preen and sleep. This was taken around 2PM. They chose my doorstep that day as a place to rest. They do it at other times near the tree throughout the day.

As others have mentioned, it's odd that high activity time for chickens is early morning and an hour or two before dusk. Both these times are when the ground predators seem most active. The hawks on the other hand are not so keen on hunting at these times because they get blinded by the sun as we do and their line of attack is limited to sun at their back if they want best vision.
In general it seems to me that chickens are more concerned about predators from the air than they are for those on the ground.
We get foxes coming through the field most days. The chickens see them and they do pay attention to where the fox is headed but they don't run for cover, unless of course the fox heads towards them. On the odd occasion I've seen a kite or a hawk fly over the chickens head for cover almost immediately.

2 hrs before sunset today poultry alerting and a big coyote was walking along the creek. The wild turkey hen was watching it closely.

It's been dry here and yesterday I added water to a couple spots the turkeys usually lay in. They had been running around checking every spot 20 times and then jump the fence. Today they used one of the spots I watered.

I bought mine used for around $220 USD. Pixels lose their "value" on the faster side.

@Shadrach, I'd recommend looking for a model newer than the Pixel 6, the 8 looks good if you are willing to spend more, 256GB of storage minimum if you don't use the cloud/don't like copying stuff off the phone. Also, if you don't mind scratches on the phone screen, they can be had a lot cheaper. I got mine pre-scratched.

And the screen can be replaced!
