The decision is difficult. Henry can't simply be replaced, because every one is an individual with their own personality, but I am sure between you and your friend, you could identify the best possible fit. There would definitely be an adjustment period, even with the cockerels hatched and raised here, by these hens, there was a hazing period. If one of the cockerels was a little annoying the hens would peck and chase them off. Then there is the cockerel himself, can you imagine, a cockerel who has been low man on the totem pole in a huge flock, suddenly being the ONLY man, he would think he has hit the lotto!I don't know what to do for the best.
I can't quarantine. It's just not realistic at the field.
I could get a Light Sussex ccockerel from my friend and he has offered a cockerel with a Light Sussex pullet which might make Mow happier. Poor Mow stands out like a sore thumb against the predominant greys of Fret, Tull and Sylph.
I'm locked in a loop of indecision currently.![]()
Because the house is so close to the chicken field, all I have to do is open the front door, and they come running. It sounds like herd of cattle thundering across the field. LOLSkeksis would have excelled at that. All I'd have to do is stand at the finish line shaking a bag of mealworms.
Pretty sure my EE would win, except that she’d probably shoot straight up in the air and fly off. I’ve still, after two months, managed to catch her three (four?) times. <- this doesn’t count when she hops up in my lap for sliced almondsBritish eccentricity knows no bounds:
I think if I ran a pub I might start a rival meet, and I would expect one of my hens to win!![]()
Is it actually Chinese, or Chinese-style, so to speak? It somehow looks different from what I expected to see (style, details), but it’s lovely.Found some interesting images on Chinese painted wallpaper: chicken or jungle fowl? what do you think, and why?

(sorry about the poor quality; they were protected by Perspex and the reflection was unavoidable)
it's the genuine Chinese article, on the walls of (Queen of) Scot's apartment at Chatsworth (aka Pemberley, for fans of a certain TV version of Pride and Prejudice)Is it actually Chinese, or Chinese-style, so to speak?
I’ll confess that I don’t do wallpaper at all, but I would secretly like to have a William Morris Arts and Crafts border in our dining room (house built in 1923, so period-faithful.) something like this:it's the genuine Chinese article, on the walls of (Queen of) Scot's apartment at Chatsworth (aka Pemberley, for fans of a certain TV version of Pride and Prejudice)

So it was on the wall of ?Mary, Queen of Scots’ apartment, meaning second half of 16th century then? (Why yes, I Googled.though there has been some discussion of wallpapers, no-one has yet hazarded a guess on the chicken or jungle fowl question, so perhaps I'd better start
. I think it's a chicken, because though it has very dark legs and slim body, its body posture is about 45 degrees (jungle fowl typically are more horizontal I read) and its hackles appear more full than those on jungle fowl photos I've seen. But it's a far from convincing case, which is why I asked what the rest of you think. Any advances on my effort?
