Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

It's interesting because I may not have done the right thing. If the teenage girl was over 16 then the bus driver was in the right. If the girl was under 16 then she was in the right. I could have been party to a fraudulent claim.
I just wanted to get home.
I suppose that’s where I idly observe to her, while walking to the steps down to talk to the driver, that this is why you always carry some sort of proof of ID with you. She’d get the message.

If she was under 16, next time she’ll remember. 16 or older, don’t try to fake it (and have enough cash.)

I believe in showing some grace to young people and some others trying their wings inappropriately. I think we all have to notch up some stoopids before we mature.

So, US chicken hatcheries don't just murder the male chicks.

This is kinda... ehh, I'll spoiler tag it:

So, they freeze them live (which kills them) and they get sent to be used as animal feed. Chicken meal? That's ground up baby roosters. Source: The Ominvore's Dilemna by Michael Pollen -- a *highly recommended read*
Here they sell the baby roosters as food for reptiles and birds of prey.

Frozen Day-Old Chicks

Frozen day-old chicks are an excellent dietary option for reptiles. They provide a good source of protein and nutrients essential to your reptile’s health. These frozen day-old chicks are specially bred and frozen to maintain freshness and quality. They are suitable for a variety of reptile species including snakes, lizards, and turtles. Feed your reptile the correct portion of frozen day-old chicks for a balanced diet and optimal health.

What do you mean bred to maintain freshness and quality? Are they not the male chicks from the laying industry? I hope they are. That way they at least serve a purpose. Like how milk cows are inseminated from a Belgian Blue bull so the calves can be sold for meat.

It can be dangerous breeding milking cows with beef cows, the calves are often bigger and more difficult to deliver. :-(

Ummm 🤔
Cervical dislocate bad

Ground up or Oxygen deprivation good :barnie

Yep some places have that set up as well with Hatcheries. But the bulk of them are just used in dog food. The aforementioned chicken meal.

@Skyeknight yeah, here it's layer 'extras' that are used for food.

Nothing goes to waste, and I don't think it's cruel. They are used.
Yeah I do think this is what is happening, Its the sentence specifically "bred to remain freshness" which rubbs me the wrong way.

As long as the harvesting process is humane. I can't imagine suffocation or freezing to death is very pleasant. :-(
