I have established a new life goal! Must experience butter with hagelslag.

MDH almost cant do without. If we go on a vacation he always puts a carton with sprinkles in our luggage.

Left to right:
hagelslag from Lidl (too sweet). Fair trade (the best according to MDH who eats this daily), chocolate flakes (my preference).

Janice looking for grapes. She is still laying a few egg each week.

Ini mini , looking for grapes too. Picked her up to trim her beak a little today. Held her before the mirror and told her she has pavers in the run now, where she can trim her beak herself. She got a few mealworms for sitting still to file her beak for a minute.
After this ‘adventure she went out to tell her flock al about her adventure.

My father did too when I was a kid.
It’s pig fat. We say ‘reuzel’ to lard.
Not for sale in the supermarket.

The Brits (or at least the Northern Brits) may recognize the term 'bread and scrape' which is bread with dripping I believe. Dripping being the fat that drips off meat as it roasts.
Personally I use the dripping for roasting potatoes and carrots.

Though I eat much less meat than I used to so don't get that too often now.

I ate plenty of chocolate sandwiches in Denmark as a kid (didn't grow up there but visited family regularly). Danish sandwich chocolate/pålægschokolade is in sheets, not shavings, and served over a layer of butter, open faced.

They sell herring on this site, too, for all you fishy-fish fans.

My mom makes a herring salad with sour cream and beets that's the stuff of nightmares. The beets make it pink. I lost count of guests (especially those from the US) who've taken a bite expecting fruity ambrosia salad...to be greeted with a mouthful of fish and onions.

Not me. I would have gone back for second helpings. I love herring in all its forms. I love beets too. Never had them combined but I am sure I would like it.
