Do any of you trim or clip your rooster's spurs?

Last year Tamar had a wound under her wing, and eventually died. It was suggested to me by a farmer that the wound was probably from the rooster being careless during mating, that trimming his spurs could help prevent a reoccurance.

What are your turkeys like? I'd like to try keeping some one day, if I had the space - they seem like proper characters.
They are characters. Some days I hate them. Jakes keep beating up chickens that they can catch. I need to finish harvesting the jakes this week, at least before breeding starts next month. . Right now I have 4 jakes that need to go to freezer camp.
Breeding stock are 6 hens 3 jennies and 3 toms. I sold a hen and her stepdaughter Thursday. I would like to sell the other 3 jennies.

I have had breeding wounds with turkey hens under the wings. Hen saddle helps.

I buy honey from local beekeepers. Store honey can be diluted with corn syrup and still be labeled "pure honey"
Honey can be up to 10% something else (high fructose corn syrup is common) and still be called "100% pure honey."

This is Squeak, last fall. I love the swirl of her neck feathers. I'm happy to say that they came back that way after molting.

Rain this morning then dryish until around 4.30pm. Windy with 30mph gusts.
They were waiting at the gate wanting out when I arrived. They ate and headed out the gate as soon as I opened it. They got about an hour on the field before the rain showed up. They saw it coming before I did and it pissed down.

Interesting that Honey and coffee is more effective than Rx for cough.

The 2nd link is behind a paywall for me.
It's a web site that presents papers on alternative natural medicines. It seems rather more based in reality than many I've visited.

Usually there is no need to trim as in cut. It is a good idea to file the spur points round and check down the spur shaft for rough patches. A good quality nail file does the job.

Thank you. I may have a diamond dust one on hand, they work really well.
