That's about it on the main carving. One advantage of filling with the slate paste is the recesses don't have to be polished out.

This is the first fill. It usually takes three or four.

As you can see below, the paste slumps quite a lot in the drying.

While I've been waiting for stuff to dry, I had a go at a piece of oak again. Very hard work and because the wood is fairly bland compared to Alzina and Alzina Surera they need a design in the shape. I'm leaning more and more to this style of lamp. I'll get one right eventually. This has got promise, but it's also got a few problems. Edge breakout is one and on this lamp, the sides need to be square to the base to make the gouge run along the length work, which isn't parallel or square. Other wise it just looks like sloppy workmanship.
Anyway, I've this far.
