I think oak would be a difficult word to hand carve, very hard.

Most gets done with a rasp. The worst with a chisel which one is forever resharpening.

Good gravy, @Shadrach , I had no idea you were such an artist! I LOVE your work! I would so buy one, but you are soooo far away. My house is fill of artisan crafts, wall art, etc. I love supporting artists. Plus, it keeps my house full of beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces.

I've recently sent a lamp to the East side of the USA. The postage was less than I thought at 43 Euros for a bit under two Kilos (4 and half pounds in weight in your system) That was a lot better than I expected. Fed Ex deal with the delivery stateside. The lamps pack quite well. The are quite hard to break, so it's chips one has to worry about.

Ok! I am moving to a new house soon (hopefully... closing is taking forever bc of COVID related delays). I will look back through the pics and let you know! It may be a while before I actually request one, though. This house thing is killing me...
