Hi everyone. I’m in the process of changing our no backyard chickens law in our village. One concern is it will draw preds in. How can I successfully address that?

Preds being predators? Likely as not they are already there. For nearly 40 years I lived inside a city of 80,000 and no chickens anywhere and it was predator central. Fox and coons in the yard nightly. I had possums living under my patio. Pulled a baby possum out of a sack of dog food in my garage once.

Good secure coops and runs (if necessary) help thwart predators.

Yup, and folks may well lose chickens to predators if birds are not properly protected.

Predators are already there. They'll go after the easiest target, be it a bunny, squirrel, someone's un-secure chicken, their cat, small dog, or heaven forbid, child.

Your DNR may be helpful here, talk to them.

I agree with the other. Predators are already there but you may not see them. There is a thread with tips on changing the laws.

Maybe you can get some ideas here. I don't know if this website will help you with some information. We actually moved back to wi from Marquette recently. Marquette allowed chickens to my surprise. It was a beautiful area.
