Only a hand full of people were able to shape shift into a animal. Some of the people had families and the children could also shape shift. The families broke apart after the normal people found out their differences. They left them. Now the shape shifters stay seperated and hidden from the other normal people to avoid another rage, they stay animals, and only shape shift behind buildings, rocks, ECT. They stay unseen as much as possible.

Since they were in hiding, they noticed how the world was changing, animals were being treated more badly, and their world wasn't as beautiful as before. They decided they had to do one thing, which was destroy all the terrible things of the world, and let the world be full of nature once again. Maybe shape shifting isn't so bad...

I shifted into ferret form. I sniffed around, it was my own rule to stay in animal form near humans. I caught a frog in my mouth and swallowed it almost whole

Caroline turned into a little, fluffy gray cat. She was a pet store's owners "pet". So Caroline could come and go as she pleased. Her cat name was Mittens.
"Hi Mittens!" A kid said, Caroline was practically famous in the pet store. They pet her and annoyed her just like any kid would, and they left once their parents got worried about her biting the kids because she got so annoyed.
