Yes, there will be little spots over the surface of the egg when you candle. I've had very porous eggs hatch just fine! You just have to be a little more diligent about using hand sanitizer or washing your hands when you handle the eggs.

So tomorrow will be the one week mark for my eggs and I am going to candle them all to figure out if they are developing. I have only ever checked one egg and tomorrow I will be doing the whole batch (10). What are the best ways to go about doing this without disturbig the broody hen too much? I will also be marking them with sharpie and possibly taking pics so i figure about 5 minutes per egg maybe. If anyone could tell me how they do it, or just give any advice in gneneral that would be great! Thanks!

Just go in after dark and take each egg out at a time. Number them so you don't keep doing the same ones. Try and be fast though, 5 minutes is a long time per egg. Good luck! If you have any specific questions feel free to ask

I am completely new at chick hatching but I've kept chickens for years. I want to candle correctly and understand what I'm looking at. To cut to the chase, 9 out of 11 28 day old eggs were "clear", "transparent" with no veins or blood. I have three that you can't candle through. They are opaque and may not be that old. What does a "black opaque" egg indicate? Thanks

I'm confused, are your eggs 28 days old??? How old the the eggs you're asking about?

They may be opaque due to color or shell thickness. Can you see the aircells? What breed?

Good morning everyone!! This is my first time incubating and candling and so far so good!! (fingers-crossed) These images are of my four eggs at 2-3 days of incubation. They are seven days now and are doing good, but it is hard to get pictures. The babies are moving around.
