Gloria Jean

Yayy for us! He goes back in 2 week for 5 more months, but at least he's home now!

Is yours home for good?

Kristian,

I don't know about the moon. Never heard that. Maybe someone with more experience could help with this. I am only on my second hatch.

By the way, you picked a great day to join! My birthday!

Jen-Eric,

Congrats on the babies!

I'm catching up on posts. Ya'll chatted a lot and I missed it tonight! Sorry for those who didn't get what you hoping for when you candled. I'm heading into day 7, 1/3 of the way there! Bator's holding steady and 5/6 mutts looking good!

Figures the one night my DH took over the computer-you guys are chatting savages!!! He has now discovered ancestry.com and is addicted. I have to say he was on for almost 5 hours last night and I was so angry I couldnt chck out BYC Now I know how he feels everynight!

oops

Mary-I was hoping for better results from the St. Cochin eggs but now not totally surprised considering my roo is not partial to the blue hen!!! But 3 are doing great-Carrie got all 3 of hers to hatch:) great candeling overall though

very time consuming huh? I have 32 left in my bator from 58-so well see-I will not candel again until lockdown to give anything a chance to keep growing and chuck the rest of the clear and quitters that I left in in hopes...sigh...

Kristen we are just not having luck on those BLRW's are we? Come on chickies!!!!

Deanner-what is it exactly that you have in your bator-and from whom? :)

Jen -congrats on more babies

Hey gals

So far this day sucks

We had to cull another chick today. It was hatched last night, and this morning, it's innards wouldn't stay in. Everything we tried made it worse, so dh did the deed for me. Yesterdays cull was so much easier on me emotionally for some reason. I think just because there was so very much wrong with the chickie, and I had a whole day to get used to the idea. It was kinder to cull than keep it alive. With this one, it was beautiful, perfect, whole, just couldn't help the poor baby. This hatch has been my worst so far. I've never had to cull a chick, never had problems like this. 76 eggs went into the bators, 18 chickies out so far, and lost 2 of them. I'm just so sad today. And it's raining and cold again. Matches my mood I guess.

Nat, all your chicks are doing beautifully

the 3 cochins finally went into the brooder this morning. The last one to hatch was BIG and has really BIG feet. If he's not a roo, I'll eat my hat. He was also the only one to hatch on day 21. Slacker

Will post a pic soon of the brooder chicks.

Yep, Ima be busy soon haha I am hatching for myself, and a few others...keep a good bit of them.....and will sell the rest....

Nat, talk to that roo..lol tell em that the blue hen is just soo gorgeous! No, but really, I am happy that 3 are doing well.

Carrie, sorry you had to cull...that is always hard....

I had a 5 week old white silkie that was born with severe legs problems and nothing worked-it hopped around on one foot and I knew the day I was on my way home I had to do the deed-but DH called me to tell me it had died before I got home-he thinks it got squished. Either way Im glad he delt with it instead of me because she realy was a pretty silkie-that was Thursday. I have come to the conclusion that if any chick is born with any problems I will give it a few days to fix itself with or without first aid from me but will put them down if not able to take life on. When I first started hatching I kept all chicks and tried to nurse everyone with problems-well when I had 1/2 the coop with handicappers I couldnt take anymore-emotionally it was truly wearing on me so DH and I made the decision to put all down. DH even shed tears helping me with it-each one was on different meds-hand feeding, bathing daily, vitamins, etc... I knew none would get better and at 4 months old-for all of them-it had to be done. I have to say the relief was immediate:-( Sad but very true

On a good note-Im so happy our chickies are doing great and cant wait to see pictures! I hope that last cochin turns out to be just like daddy-so sweet!!!

That roo is now out with the rest of the group! I was cleaning out that breeding pen 2-3 days ago and the blue hen escaped when I turned around to grab fresh shavings-I turned around and spotted her just in time to see my big favorelle/amaracauna roo mating her! Dang it %$##@!... So I released the whole breeder pen since it would be another 3 weeks before purity could be confirmed again! Besides the black hen broody for 5 days and stopped laying so screw it for now-I do have 4 of their eggs in bator doing well so That Im greatful for and all you guys have their babies too:) Now I have to talk to someone who has been waiting for SPlit silkie eggs and ST cochin eggs for a month now! I have to return her $ ( no biggie-its just been sitting in the paypal account) But Im sad I couldnt fill her request:-( Maybe she'll want other eggs??? IDK...Carrie-my mood is in your boat right now:-(

Carrie - So sorry you had to cull. That stinks.

Sonew - That Salmon/Ameraucana roo, what a little stud! Can't turn around for 2 minutes!

I now have 4 mottled cochin chicks (2 eggs left) and 3 silkie chicks (3 eggs left) in the incubator. I started with 14 eggs so I am at 50%. Not too Shabby.

Nat, I'm sorry your day isn't any brighter than mine. Only me and dh (and you all) know about this mornings cull. Mom and the kids were all sleeping thank goodness. Mom was and still is totally devastated by yesterday's cull. That was "her" baby, and she's talking about it this morning. I'm so thankfull we have other chicks to occupy them. Gotta make breakfast for them all. I'll check back in soon.
