On a good note I am delivering a white silkie roo -a polish breeding pair-and 5 split lav silkie chicks to someone who is driving 3 hours to meet me for them-meeting at MCD's with these guys gone it totally frees up 2 pens for the chicks in the house to go into-thank goodness! Ill be back on after 3 pm

I think this thread has developed into something else all together. I know there are lots of people on different days. I have some hatching now and others on day 8...

selection ...........of mostly marans from Helen my FAV ebay seller day 8 & day day 5
mix ..................from Nat -day 8
MF cochins .........from patty (on the spot) - day 9
silkies................from Mary R -day10

DH thinks I am nuts and the kids have sort of lost interest.
Thank goodness you guys emphasize with the addiction!!!!

Try to fix every chick that has issues. Not too many thankfully considering how many I hatch.

I found a really nice gal on Craigslist who works for a vet (gets free vet care) who has taken 4 in the past, but she can't take any more.

So had to do "the deed" on 2 yesterday for the first time. For one it was a real kindness as it seemed to be in constant pain. The other had a twisted beak that was rapidly getting worse. I felt really bad about that one. I held off on #3 who hops around with its bad leg of the ground and seems OK with it.

It made me feel sad all day.

Jump right in Phage most of us are in the middle of staggered hatches... I just got almost ALL of my greenhouse started this morning. It's keeping my mind off of my dying rooster. I haven't given up on him yet, but he has scaly leg mites. He's been limping, I finally figured out what was wrong

gave him invomec last night and he has gone from up and running to lethargic. Forcing electrolytes on him, but he's not really even fighting me. No difficulty breathing just fluffy and super lethargic. I'm not giving up on him yet! I'm giving him fluids every hour. Meantime I won't go near the babies until I take a shower for fear of transfering the parasite to the little ones. This first year of having chickens has been a dream and hell.. unfortunately I seem to keep learning by mistakes and tragedies
