I know folks say this is a no-no, but I think I'd intervene just a tiny bit to see if there's any blood. I had one that died (EE) about 5 or 6 hours after pip though it was trying like heck to get out. Membrane turned a tan color and stuck to it. When I opened the egg, I think the head was in a funny position and it couldn't get out, and the membrane dried out after it made a large hole, but not really a zip. I saw toes out the hole. Now I know that shouldn't happen. Then, it was my first time. Anyway, that chick was fully formed, yolk absorbed, and tried valiantly to get out. When the breath signs stopped, I yanked it out, but it was too late. I guess it a judgement call.
