Okay, I know it's a no-no. But my struggler's (Nat's mix) breath signs were starting to get faint, so I went in and got him out and picked the shell/membrane off. It was shrink wrapped. I don't know why this one did that. My humidity has been great, possibly even a bit high. But anyway, as soon as I pulled his head out he let out this loud cheep and is breathing fine. I left him in the bottom of the shell and put him back in the bator. Hopefully it will rest and gain strength. The membrane had a pinkish tinge, but no frank blood. So I think I did the right thing. I hope. That makes 7 if it lives. And number 8, a heavily waxed BR/EE, is beginning to zip. That's all except the BMF which is not making a move or a sound... will still wait on it... hoping.

I'm a happy mama with a busy brooder tonight. Will have pics up in a bit.

:ep!!!!
Does your DH sell them?
He could make a killing.

I checked the wings of the BLRW chicks to sex them and I am not sure what I am doing. The primary feathers all look uneven to me and in 2 rows. 2 chicks look to have the classic "girl" today. They looked like the others yesterday. The wheaten marans that hatched the same day I think are mostly boys (have color on wings) and their wing feathers look like "classic" boys.

So I have no real idea what my BLRW are, but if I had to say now I would say all girls which is pretty UNLIKELY.
It may be more obvious tomorrow.
Will let you know.

I was schizophrenic to begin with, now I'm just NUTS! This "hobby" truly has become more of an obsession. I think about it all day long... my chickens are getting a thermopane window in their coop... I mean really???

Thank you Blessed. I'm waiting to see pics of your new babies. I loved the silkie hatching pic.

Those are beautiful roses!!!! In NY, I got up to 80 rose bushes, down here in Florida, 4. One does extremely well for me so I have 2, the rest hate it here. LOL

Thank you Sem

Have you tried communicating with gardeners in your area to see what does well for them? I know a women who lives in FL, she has a ton of roses. I can give you a couple websites if you'd like. She belongs to one of them. Only if you want of course, I'm not pushing roses on anyone. LOL, ok, yes I do. I push chickens on people too. My dh calls me the pimp

You used to live in NY? I hate NY. I've been trying to convince the family to move south for years. DH just keeps saying when he retires. Butthead. I want to move to Mississippi, Louisiana, or Alabama.

Tell John he does great work. However, as cool as the barracuda is, I'm pretty sure it would give me nightmares that it was gonna eat me

Glad you helped it Blessed! It might not have made it without you. I've discovered that even though helping is a no-no, sometimes it's necessary. I don't recommend it for first-timers, but when you've hatched enough, you know the difference. Congrats on your waxed one, bet you'll be keeping an eye on it to make sure it gets out ok lol.

Great roses! You get to have those cabbage type (english?) roses! Those type get all kinds of diseases down here 'cause they get stressed in the heat and humidity. Best bet we have down here is floribundas and a few of the antique and found roses. And some of the modern teas, but I'm not really keen on most of those. Black spot city. You still have to select through the antique pretty carefully! I had a huge mermaid rose that I thought was pretty indestructable but something got it and it did not leaf out this spring. It covered 20 ft of fence. I had to take all of it out piece by piece with welding gloves because the thorns were so wicked! I would LOVE to have a Ballerina!

You can grow all kinds of stuff up there that we can't down here. I actually live in zone 9! Well, on the southern edge of zone 9 and 8S. I wish I could grow everything you can up to zone 6 or so. So pretty.

AND NAT! Every few years we drive up that way, and next time we do I'll bring you a fish! My hubby makes 'em and I paint 'em!
He made our flotilla of flying pigs, too. The big fish weigh about 35 lbs and are all steel and turn and swim in the wind. He also made a barracuda that we got chromed and is very cool, but I have to put that up another time 'cause I didn't take a pic of it. Its in one of the ugly parts. He also made another barracuda but its not chromed, yet, but is better than the first!

I need to take pics of some of the other yard art he makes. He likes to make stuff BIG. Like a 3 ft dragonfly.

Brindle you know if you do come way the heck North up here I have a gorgeous cabin with all the emenities youd need:-) just have to give me heads up on the date so its not rented out:-)
