I have also found that once I got a few hatches under my belt I was better at ignoring them during incubation.

I agree with this 100%

Girls come on help me out whos hatched call ducks out???

I am with you as well on that Natalie.

Get the bad eggs out and then leave the good'uns ALONE to do their stuff.

Leads to WAY higher hatch rates on eggs that start developing.

Hey Nat,

Hate to make more work for someone (er.. you...maybe??) maybe we could make a BLRW shark snipers hot tips thread, or even add it to your first post on this thread? There is SO much good info in this thread IF you can find it between all the socializing/supporting/sharing etc!!

I love fruit and veggie gardens! This weekend was just perfect gardening weather! What kind of grape did you put in?

Our older table grapevine has tiny pre-grapelets already and I'm putting in a Mortenson bunch grape 'cause they are supposed to do well in Houston. We had watermelons and muskmelons last year, but don't have room this year. We only have various tomatoes, bell and serrano peppers and herbs this year. Just LOVE fresh basil and cilantro and french cooking herbs! Would love an eggplant, squash and zucchini but DH doesn't do those.

Do you have to cover your veggies esp. tomatoes w/ bird netting? I'm trying to figure out the best way to do that. Last year after the birds discovered the tomatoes they probably ruined about 30% of 'em. Trying to make a huge cage over the tomatoes and then drape the netting and weight it with lengths of rebar so the squirrels won't crawl under it. The inderterminate vines get so darn big, though - we had 6 ft tall tomato plants. Probably shouldn't have so many bird feeders to attract them into the yard......but....you know.....

My neighbor put in several rows of sweet corn and I'm already plotting on trading eggs for fresh ears of corn!

You can make row covers very easily by taking 1/2 inch PVC pipe and cutting 10 foot lengths. Then poke either end in the ground to create support hoops. Cover with bird netting pinned down with tent stakes. It works great and its cheap!
